Financing through disability insurance (IV)
If you need an electric wheelchair, you can contact disability insurance (IV) or accident insurance. In Switzerland, Scewo GO is officially registered as a medical device and is therefore eligible for funding through the IV. The insurance provider will assess each case individually and determine to what extent it will contribute to the cost of your Scewo wheelchair.
Below, we give you a concise overview of how the entire process works and what you need to keep in mind at each step.

Together, we’ll take your preferred wheelchair for a no-obligation test drive. We’ll be happy to come to your home so you can try it out in your familiar surroundings and we can make sure it’s the best solution for you. Of course, you can also take a test drive with one of our partners. One of our experts will document your test drive and record the results in a trial report.

Time to see your doctor.
Together with your doctor, you complete the medical prescription for the provision of a wheelchair. Your doctor will also determine your so-called disability grade, which is an important factor in the IV’s funding decision.

Together with a Scewo expert, you’ll use the application form for the provision of a wheelchair to specify the needs your wheelchair must meet. You’ll then select the functions and accessories your wheelchair requires from our range.

We crunch the numbers for your quote.
Based on the medical prescription and taking your wishes and needs into account, you are entitled to a listed wheelchair. Through the IV’s right of substitution, this entitlement can be applied toward the financing of your Scewo wheelchair. The IV wheelchair tariff* can be used to estimate the amount the IV may approve.

Off to the IV.
We submit your application form to the IV together with the quote and a personalized cover letter.
“Ding dong”—a visit from SAHB.
The IV involves SAHB*. An SAHB specialist visits you at home to assess whether a Scewo wheelchair is suitable for you and your everyday life. The specialist then submits their report and recommendation to the IV.

Decision day.
Reason to celebrate: The IV approves your funding.
- The IV covers all or part of the cost* of your wheelchair.
- A pre-owned wheelchair is available for you from the SAHB assistive device depot.
*If the IV covers only part of the cost, you will receive separate invoices for the IV-funded portion and your own contribution. If the IV covers 50% or more of the cost, the wheelchair becomes its property.
Unfortunately, no.
It can happen that the IV decides not to provide financial support. If your application is denied, you still have three options, and we’ll be happy to support you with each of them:
- File an appeal with the IV
- Finance the wheelchair privately
- Apply to foundations for financial support

For repairs and the recommended annual maintenance*, simply visit us or one of our partners.
*If your wheelchair was funded by the IV, you can have it serviced once a year. The costs are generally covered by the IV. Repairs and maintenance may be subject to charges in cases of intentional damage or for privately financed wheelchairs.
