Applying through the IV
Switzerland
In Switzerland, you submit your application to the Disability Insurance (Invalidenversicheurng/IV). Keep the following in mind:
- Documents for the application: Before submitting an application, you must complete a test drive, which needs to be documented with videos and photos. Include this material with your application. You will also need a medical prescription for the assistive device.
- Always in writing: Submit your application in writing and request confirmation of receipt.
- If your application is rejected: If your application is denied, you can file an appeal within 30 days. If you do not yet have the full reasoning for your appeal prepared, you may also submit an informal appeal first in order to meet the deadline.
Applying through a public authority
Germany
In Germany, different authorities may be responsible for your application. Christian Au, LL.M., attorney-at-law and certified specialist in social law, recommends keeping the following in mind:
- Identify the right funding provider: When applying for an assistive device for work, five different authorities may be responsible. Make sure you find out which one is responsible for your case.
- Always in writing: Submit your application in writing and request confirmation of receipt. If your application is rejected, only accept the decision in writing.
- Document your situation: The workplace must already exist at the time of the application and the relevant barrier must be present. Include photos of this barrier with your application.
