Breaking Barriers with Humor: A Conversation with Acacio Cossa

Acacio Cossa, better known online as “Rollnaldo,” is a Powerchair Football national team player, a comedian, and above all someone who approaches disability and barriers with humor. Over the course of six months, he tested the Scewo BRO extensively in his everyday life as part of a collaboration — on the go, at events, and wherever small steps become major obstacles. In the interview, Acacio speaks openly about his content and his experiences with the stair-climbing electric wheelchair Scewo BRO.

You are a successful Powerchair Football national team player and have also grown rapidly as a comedian and content creator in recent months. Which role do you identify with more today – or is that something you can’t really separate?

For me, the two can’t really be separated. My main goal has always been to make powerchair football better known. I mostly create comedy content, but I always try to include powerchair football in it.

What originally motivated you to become a content creator?

To raise awareness for powerchair football – becoming a content creator was never actually the plan. 😄

You are very open and self-ironic about your disability. Has that always been easy for you?

No, not really. When I was younger, I tried to hide it as much as I could. I spent a lot of time gaming online back then, and almost no one knew about my disability.

Do you ever receive criticism because of your humor? If so, how do you deal with it?

I rarely get criticism, but when it’s constructive, I’m happy to take it on board. I reflect on it and try to improve.

What do you enjoy doing when the camera is off and there’s no training scheduled?

At the moment, pretty much all my time goes into social media. 😅 Otherwise, maybe some Netflix. I actually enjoy gaming too, but I just can’t seem to find the time for it anymore.

Do you remember your first ride with the BRO? What was that like for you?

Yes, that was at REHACARE three years ago. I was really fascinated and curious right away.

In which situations did the Scewo BRO specifically support you in everyday life?

It mainly helped me with smaller barriers. Often, just a slightly higher step is enough to make it impossible to continue with a regular wheelchair.

Was there a moment when you thought: Okay, this is a real game changer?

That was at VideoDays. I was able to access an area that wouldn’t have been reachable for me with a standard electric wheelchair.

If you had to describe the Scewo BRO to someone who has never seen it before, which three words would you choose?

Modern, helpful, and a stair-climber.

Is there a feature you would like to see added to the Scewo BRO?

Negative seat tilt.

When you think about the future, what do you hope assistive technology will enable to make everyday life easier and more self-determined?

I wish for a robot that can be controlled with your thoughts, so you can take care of yourself independently.

What would you like to share with people without disabilities?

Try to make the best of your own situation and always be respectful.
