Mann im Scewo BRO Sitzlift Schlossplatz Stuttgart

«I was already a confident person before, but with Scewo, that confidence has grown even more.»

That BRO pilot Sezer is rarely found at home is no coincidence. The adventurer and volunteer from the Stuttgart area is constantly on the move whenever he can be – whether with friends, family, or through his volunteer work. Not without reason, his life motto is: «We have a choice to live or to exist».

Sezer lives near Stuttgart and has never let challenges hold him back. He has been living with the diagnosis of «spastic tetraparesis» since birth. What helped him along the way was not only his determination, but also the decision to find the right assistive device for his active lifestyle – the Scewo BRO. Today, Sezer sees BRO as an indispensable companion that gives him not only mobility, but also a new level of spontaneity and independence.

From first amazement to his first long-distance trip

Sezer discovered the Scewo BRO like many others: during its first appearance on the TV show «Die Höhle der Löwen». His first thought at the time: «Cool device!» But that was it for the moment. A few years later, while browsing the internet, a Scewo ad suddenly appeared, mentioning a free test drive. «Right, there was something!», he thought, and filled out the form. Two weeks later, he was already sitting in the BRO for a test drive. Since then, a lot has changed.

As a volunteer treasurer in his football club, Sezer is more flexible than ever with BRO. And just recently, he went on his first major long-distance trip: Cologne. «What really shaped me is being able to get somewhere quickly and independently more often, without having to ask someone to drive or accompany me», Sezer explains.

Diagnosis: Spastic tetraparesis

Spastic tetraparesis, also known as central paresis, is a neurological condition that affects coordination and balance. It leads to increased muscle stiffness, which can significantly limit mobility. The arms and legs are particularly affected, making everyday activities such as walking, standing, or grasping more difficult.

Typical signs include increased muscle tone and heightened reflexes. In addition, involuntary movements, known as pathological reflexes, often occur. Although the severity of the condition varies, it frequently requires the use of assistive devices such as wheelchairs to maintain mobility and independence.

To see and to be seen

What fascinated Sezer from the very beginning was the variety of features BRO offers. «I use 90% of all its features», he says. Especially in moments when pathological reflexes occur, BRO gives him the responsiveness he needs. In everyday life, it is primarily the seat lift that makes the difference for him: being able to speak with others at eye level, truly perceive them, and also be perceived himself, makes a huge difference.

In summer, the relax position is a must, allowing BRO to move into a lounge-like position. «People often look and wonder what’s going on with me», he says with a laugh. Sezer has always stood out. But with BRO, he attracts even more attention. It doesn’t bother him – quite the opposite: what starts as a curious glance often turns into an engaging conversation. And it’s exactly these interactions that clearly bring him joy.

Funding: A tough journey that pays off

Sezer was able to fully finance his BRO through his health insurance in Germany. The process was not easy, but his persistence paid off: «I’m a very persistent person who doesn’t give up and knows when I’m right – so I keep fighting.» His advice to others: stay persistent, know your rights, and make strong, well-founded arguments. The application process requires patience and resilience, Sezer says, but it’s worth it. And those who prepare their case well may soon find themselves sitting in a BRO too.
