«It’s an incredible feeling to drive a wheelchair like this.»

When Daniel Fuks suffered a stroke a few years ago, his life changed in an instant. Until that point, he had built an impressive career, working successfully in diverse roles as a construction project manager, managing director, and real estate agent. He was in the prime of life when the diagnosis hit. From that moment on, the right side of his body was paralyzed. What followed was a long journey of recovery: rehabilitation, professional reinvention, and above all, the question of how to navigate everyday life in a body that suddenly felt so unfamiliar.

Daniel has lived in Frankfurt for over ten years. Today, he is fully back in the action, independent, confident, and curious about everything that lies ahead. His ability to return to both his private and professional life is something he attributes not only to his determination, but also to a very special companion: his Scewo BRO.

Step by Step, Back to Life

Giving up was never an option for Daniel. After his stroke, he quickly decided to keep moving forward. He pursued further training, explored new paths, and eventually discovered the Scewo BRO during his research. In his own home, there are 18 steps that he needs to tackle every day. «I searched online for ways to overcome stairs. BRO gave me complete access because with it, I can rediscover the buildings and architecture I love, and continue my work», he reflects.

Today, Daniel is once again working as a construction and project manager, despite the everyday obstacles he faces. «Mobility is a central theme in my job. The ability to get places quickly and safely. I can now overcome stairs in old and new buildings and even visit construction sites myself».

Mobile despite stroke

A stroke, medically known as apoplexy or cerebral infarction, occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is disrupted. The most common causes are blood clots (ischemic stroke) or brain hemorrhages (hemorrhagic stroke). In both cases, brain cells begin to die within minutes, often with severe consequences. Every year, around 270,000 people in Germany suffer a stroke.

Especially after such an event, it is crucial to quickly find solutions that support not only the body but also the mind. An assistive device like the Scewo BRO can help gradually regain mobility and, most importantly, reconnect with everyday life.

Curiosity, Connection, and Motion – What drives Daniel

Daniel is someone who loves to be out and about. Traveling, discovering new places, meeting people. That’s where his energy lies. With BRO by his side, almost every door is open to him. «I always use BRO to get where I need to go, whether near or far. By train, by car – it’s all no problem», he explains. Whether visiting new cities or moving through everyday life in Frankfurt, BRO takes him to places that would otherwise remain inaccessible. Thanks to its comfort and long range, even longer distances are easy to manage.

What Daniel values most is meaningful interaction at eye level. Whether at panels, presentations or just a casual conversation: BRO’s seat lift makes it possible. «It allows me to rise up, look people in the eye and really engage with them». These are the moments when inclusion becomes something tangible, not just technically, but emotionally.

Looking Ahead with Confidence

Daniel knows what it means to rebuild life after a major turning point. «I can absolutely understand that people, after a serious illness or accident, lose their self-confidence, their drive and just don’t see the goal anymore that makes it all worthwhile». Today, he looks at his progress with calm assurance. Not in spite of what happened, but because he had the right support. «Without BRO I wouldn’t have taken certain steps. I founded two companies and now manage them myself. That wouldn’t have been possible without BRO». For Daniel, BRO is no longer just an assistive device. As he puts it: «My BRO has become part of the family».

Funding through the German Federal Employment Agency

From the beginning, Stefan was determined: The Scewo BRO was exactly what he needed to regain his independence. To make his dream come true, he turned to the Swiss Invalidity Insurance (IV). The application process required patience, multiple conversations, and perseverance – but Stefan stayed steadfast. Eventually, the IV covered part of the costs, and a foundation helped fund the remaining amount.

Today, Stefan is proud that his persistence paid off. His advice for others pursuing funding: «Stick with it and never give up – that’s what counts in the end.»
