BRO in the lion’s den
In the TV show “Die Höhle der Löwen” (The Lion’s Den) we roared loudly, maybe even a little too loud. With our record demand of 5 million, the lions almost fell off their stools.
The big day
On 11 October 2021, the time had finally come: broadcast of the TV show “Die Höhle der Löwen” starring our three founders. The whole team made themselves comfortable in front of the screen in the office with popcorn, pizza and drinks and eagerly awaited the climax of the show.
With «We probably have the largest capital requirement ever asked for in the «Höhle der Löwen». We need 5 million euros,» Bernhard opens the presentation and leaves the lions in awe. No one has ever appeared before the lions with such a high investment demand. This even prompted Carsten Maschmeyer, investor and Lion, to consult with his business partners. Such a telephone joker is actually only available to the founders. The feedback from the lions was very positive and Nico Rosberg in particular was visibly taken by BRO. Nevertheless, the lions turned down an investment. 5 million was simply too much. «We were not really surprised that there was no investment. We were aware that 5 million is a large sum that you don’t just invest like that,» says Thomas about the outcome of the programme. And actually we wanted even more…
Success even without lions
… which we also managed to achieve. Even without the lions, we were able to raise the 10 million in capital we needed to increase production and expand into other countries. With Verve Ventures, Wingman Ventures, the Zürcher Kantonalbank, medtech entrepreneur Willi Miesch, Boundary Holding and others, we have great investors on board who are fully behind our vision.
An experience with emphasis
The phone is ringing off the hook, enquiries are pouring in through all channels and comments are piling up on the various platforms. «The show was worth it just because of the enormous reach», Bernhard sums up. «We are very happy with how we appeared on the show and it was a great way to raise awareness of our BRO and our vision», Thomas continues. A unique opportunity that we highly recommend to every start-up.
